Wheaton Sanitary District is a municipal corporation established in 1925 under the Sanitary District Act of 1917. The District operates a 8.9 million gallon per day (mgd) wastewater treatment plant which has received numerous local and national awards. The District provides wastewater treatment for portions of the City of Wheaton, Village of Carol Stream, Village of Glen Ellyn, Village of Winfield, and unincorporated areas of DuPage County. The District owns and maintains a sanitary sewer system for portions of the service area. The District serves a population of about 57,000 residents, and the normal operating budget is about $8 million a year.
