WSD Acknowledges Essay Winner

At our November 13th Board Meeting, the Wheaton Sanitary District invited 8th grade student, Aksel Escareno to recognize and acknowledge him.  Aksel participated in a writing competition under the research category with the Central States Water Association (CSWEA). His essay titled: “One Drop Makes a Difference” won 2nd place.

Aksel wrote about the impaired Lower West Branch DuPage River watershed, and how Wheaton Sanitary District treats the wastewater to keep the watershed clean. Aksel’s research made him aware of not only what he can mindfully do as an individual such as shortening showers, but how we all can make a difference. He included a quote from Mother Teresa, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”

Congratulations and thank you Aksel.   Keep up the good work! Wheaton Sanitary District wishes you continued success in school.
